I just finished BE, and many of the points raised here struck me too. I wonder if TP’s insistence on the existence of metaphysical spaces is seriously posited as a point of resistance to Late Capitalism. As a metaphor for the creative possibilities of the unconscious, it’s all well and good. But as the basis of a programme of political and economic change it is hard to take seriously. But then I suppose it’s the novelist’s job to ask question but not necessarily offer solutions.
