  1. Regarding the socketless->mutterlos translation issue:

    If you translate “socketless” literary, it means “fassunglos” in German, which translates back to “stunned” in English. So it may be multilingual meta humour here. See also this German rap cypher where Fatoni makes a similar joke on that:

    But I think there is a more likely explanation: The german word “Mutter” has multiple meanings, it’s not only mother, but also “screw nut”, which Pynchon may just have mixed up with “socket”.
